TS Top 15: Smallville Episodes #7
Salvation (season 9)
This is one of the best Smallville finales. The opening shot alone makes it one of my favorites as it teases Superman soaring through the sky. Like Phantom, Salvation was the climax of a rare set of ongoing plotlines and themes. Season 9 sent the show up a gear with the introduction of Zod as a regular, and the ramifications of Jimmy’s death turned most of our characters a little darker across the year. The building tension between Clark and Zod throughout the season led to a great final showdown as the two fight it out without their powers in the middle of the rain. Clark finally outsmarting Zod was a great way to end their feud. Overall, this was as adult as Smallville has ever been, and it was all the better for it.
TS Top 15: Smallville Episodes Honorable Mention-
Commencement (season 4)
The fourth season of Smallville is not seen as a very good one – the show’s direction is lost due to pointless supernatural elements being added. Commencement not only signifies the end of this dull season, it also redeems it by having a second meteor storm, buckets of action and most importantly of all, the arrival of Superman’s secret base, the Fortress of Solitude.
